Wise Cities
The Wise-Cities project (I-SITE FUTURE’s 2017 Tremplin project) focused on water-energy-soil interactions in urban environments. It involved the ESIEE-LIED, ENPC-LEESU, GERS-LEE, AME-LVMT, and COSYS-IMSE laboratories. The various activities carried out within this project were characterized by a strong interdisciplinary approach related to the Water-Energy-Soil Nexus.
Among the numerous research efforts conducted within this project, the following are worth mentioning:
- The modeling of thermal interactions between wastewater drainage pipes and the soil. This modeling allowed to estimate the amount of waste heat that can be recovered using heat exchangers installed in wastewater drainage networks.
- The contribution of urban gardens to urban comfort during heat waves was evaluated, particularly with regard to water management and social dynamics.
- An analysis of the impact of water-energy-soil interactions on urban development.
